Finally we
have arrived at the end of 2005, it seems to have flown by so quickly! It has
been a busy year and now at last, during the festive season, I can take a few
moments to relax and reflect on the year.
Below I have
summarised the key projects that have been put in place by the Town Council and
those that are in progress. In the pages that follow you will find further
information.
Road safety is
a major concern and the speed on the roads, has become highly dangerous and is
very difficult to reduce. The work that has been carried out on ‘rue de la Tour’
and ‘rue Pierre Bressuire’ will help our objective to slow traffic down.
In St. Pierre
du Chemin the Town Council have carried out work to provide housing. There are
plots of land reserved in the housing estates to allow the least fortunate to
put a roof over their heads.
The municipal
buildings have required a permanent overhaul. The school canteen has been
modernised, the old Girls School has been converted into a library for everyone
to use and there is also a new service with the Garderie ‘Pattes de Mouche’.
The old post office building has also been renovated and is now available for
use by the ADMR and the St Valentin. Roof work has been carried out and the roof
of ‘Les Halles’ has been completely renewed and the wooden parts of the church
roof have been replaced.
At the
football ground the facilities have been improved as this year we have added a
new toilet block. Also the sports hall, which was built over 25 years ago, has
benefited from ongoing maintenance by the commune and there is a new project in
the first quarter of 2006 to update the cloakrooms and toilets. At the Marie we
are still faced with the problem of accessibility to the first floor and we are
considering a passage from the Place Jeanne d’Arc.
Our Energy and
water supply has never posed so many questions during the last 50 years as it
has today. Therefore we must seriously consider how we use these resources. The
Town Council is studying a project to heat centrally parts of the council
buildings, la Résidence Comtesse d’Asnières and la Résidence La Pierre Rose.
This will be a big investment if we decide to put the plans in place, but it
will have many benefits, not least in the reduction of pollution and energy
savings.
In our commune
we qualify for a grant from the Department Council to implement and improve
parks and green areas in the commune. We will put this in place as soon as
possible.
Looking
further a field, November 2005 saw an explosion of violence in the city suburbs
around France. Even though those involved justified their acts with good reason,
there is no excuse. All physical or verbal violence is unacceptable and will not
be tolerated. We must take the time to listen and to be heard.
And so the
story of 2005 has now been written. We have a blank page in front of us for 2006
and the future, we have everything to gain! Along with the Town Council and
everyone at the Marie, I offer my best wishes for the New Year.
